Pennsylvania Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards (AEPS)

The Pennsylvania AEPS laws require Public Utilities and Retail Electricity Sellers to purchase Alternative Energy Credits (AECs or SRECs) produced by in-state solar facilities. These entities are obligated to purchase and retire SRECs of an amount equating to 0.5% of the total electricity that they sold to end users on the PJM energy grid.

Flett Exchange brokers the sale of SRECs between you and the energy companies required to buy them.

Pennsylvania has much less aggressive renewable energy targets than neighboring states like NJ and MD. PA's solar target has remained at 0.5% for 10+ years, while other states raise the buying requirement annually.

1 Pennsylvania AEC (SREC) = 1,000 kWh

Pennsylvania SREC: Price Estimates

SRECs will trade in the $15-$25 range unless there is an increase in the yearly buying requirement for energy companies.

2025: $23.78 (01/08/26)
2026: $23.00 (est.)
2027: $40.00-$50.00 (PRESS Act Passed)
2027: $23.00 (no change)

Annual SREC Income Formula: System Size (kW DC) x 1.25 × $/SREC = Estimated Annual Income
